781 index.php inurl p 781 index.php inurl p::The chattooga river ranger district covers 261,035 acres in the northeast part of georgia.
To the east is the chattooga wild and scenic river.
In the western part of the district are the headwaters of the chattahoochee river and the upper chattahoochee river campground.
The appalachian national scenic trail passes through the district.
There are many waterfalls across the district including the twin waterfalls of anna ruby falls scenic area.
Camping, plus the thrill of driving off road vehicles over mountainous terrain and trail systems, equals the oakey mountain ohv recreation area.
This 6site developed campground near lake burton and lake rabun is located only 100 yards from the trailhead, allowing for troublefree access to the trail system directly from the campground.
In addition, the convenience of camping near the trails will allow the adventure enthusiast to maximize daylight on his or her ride to the fullest.
Please contact the chattooga river ranger district for the latest information on trail availability due to frequent weather contingencies.
Reservations are not required.
Occupancy of sites are on a first come, first serve basis.
North parking lot: from clayton, go west on highway 76 for 6.
Turn left on charlie mountain road until it dead ends.
Turn right on the bridge creek road for 2 miles until it dead ends at lake burton dam road.
Turn right for 1.
South parking lot: from clayton, go west on highway 76 for 6.
Turn right on the bridge creek road for 2 miles until it dead ends at lake burton dam road.
Turn left for 4.
Continue on the gravel road for about 40 feet to the paved entrance road on the right.
